I feel like Highschool DxD being in the romance pile is the biggest issue in that section

It’s like. DxD doesn’t even have proper romance, it’s just wish fulfillment harem shit with some decent action here and there, which is fine on its own, but it’s certainly not a romance show.

Tbh, if you stick long enough with it, it really is a romance that actually gets realised. Also, it's OP's recommendation of "least accessible romance", so it does fit.

5th most accessible of all romance anime is what OP is claiming

FIFTH OF ALL ROMANCE ANIME

it's probably less accessible than half of romance anime

the average person has trouble with naked 14yo neko lolis

FIFTH OF ALL ROMANCE ANIME

That's not what OP is claiming at all, but I'm starting to understand why people are confused about the chart.

This chart shows a range of anime in each genre. Gundam is FAR from being the fifth most accessible Sci-Fi show of all time and I'd think most people would find that fact to be obvious. Same with Chihayafuru being interpreted as the fifth most accessible show "of all time" when it's clearly a pretty niche anime relative to all of the other anime dramas that exist.

The idea of the chart (however flawed) is that the more to the right side you get, the closer to niche anime you're getting. Everything on the far left are about as mainstream as you can get, while the right side has varying levels of niche and inaccessible. Keyword being varying, the chart definitely isn't perfect.

If you start with or only watch IBO (one of the recommendations) then I’d say gundam is super accessible. If you get into the other shows then I agree.

Also most of the shows on the right are still pretty popular. Like JoJo is one of the most popular anime/manga of all time.

I don't really agree with DxD's inclusion there, but I don't think OP is making that claim, are they? In their explanation they say they tried to get a good spread.

then it's extra confusing because the preamble says they tried not to include anything too inaccessible

when they refer to the variety they say it's the type of shows, they never mention a variety of accessibility

if the lowest shows are supposed to be fairly inaccessible then imo jojo is a bad choice, jojo s1 and 2 are pretty accessible imo

all around very confusing post, it has the spirit and is a good idea but needs work

The issue is that accessibility/inaccessibility is very subjective. Different people will have different ideas of what is subjective. I'd also say that long-time anime fans have an extremely skewed perception about what is inaccessible or "too much" for non/new-anime fans.

I agree that it's a good idea, but unfortunately no matter who attempts to make it there will always be people arguing about how wrong the person is due to the subjective nature of art. It's just kind of an inherent problem of trying to make blanket recommendations with a chart like this, as opposed to just trying to make personalized recommendations.

It is nice to see OP making the effort though, and it's nice to see people acknowledging the idea that they were going for.

burh, obviously 14yo naked neko lolis are not accessible to typical non anime fans

this isn't subjective, it's objectively not accessible, I just don't have the data to back it up

there's a difference between subjective and objective but unproven

If you're going to include an ecchi romance, it's a good one to pick. Definitely fits as the "watch if you're horny" representative, per the description OP gave it.
