Shintaro in the anime I find to simply not be a good person. He's manipulative, controlling and a compulsive liar. I find the show really hard to enjoy as I'm expected to sympathize with him but I can't bring myself to root for him as he's given me no reason to like him let alone show any effort to be better. While all the other characters seem completely stricken with him for absolutely no reason. Does anyone else get this vibe from the show or any other feelings on this topic? I'd love to hear from others since I haven't seen this discussed elsewhere.
