Wait, how would that even work? Would you unlock new shouts every time the autopilot runs down a pedestrian or something?

I mean, I could buy one... But I would have to convince my wife it's a good investment or find a compelling reason why I should have one.

I can play xcloud on any half decent smart phone these days. I already have a decent phone and I already have game pass ultimate. Even if I don't have a Bluetooth controller on hand there are plenty of simple twin stick shooters that are easily playable with touch controls.

Did this recently to try out starfield on an optiplex running Linux. Even from the edge browser it recognized my controller .

so they added a non-support "feature"....
its running linux. linux has a flatpack for steam alongside a compatibility layer that allows even non-linux supported games to run..........
and they removed that functionality for no reason.

They might be transitioning to ARM / Nvidia Jetson or similar which doesn’t have a Linux version for Steam.

Ah yes, very plug and play and something Tesla will certainly support…
/edit: Fucking hilarious that I get downvoted for this. No brand in their right mind is going to support a hacky solution that’s not supported by the original vendor (Valve). They have no obligation to give you Steam on your car.

this article was early in 2022. vulkan support is now available on arm processors, including mobile processors. it is quite simple to set up - i highly recommend checking it out on a raspberry pi : D

The problem is that there is no support from Valve themselves and Tesla certainly won’t pour any money into it to get it to work, since they’re in complete money-saving mode at the moment.
If they can’t get it to work with close to zero labor, they won’t include it.
Now, I could be totally wrong and they could still be including x86/x64 computers and there’s some other (monetary) reason for omitting it, but the hassle of getting it to work on ARM (even with minimal work) might completely explain it.

I can run Windows steam games on my M1 Macbook pro using WINE. Works just fine and very easy setup. You can either use Crossover or Whiskey.

Most likely they are just leaving off the AMD GPU and only using the embedded one on the main CPU. From what I’ve read in the past all of the infotainment graphics are only rendered by the GPU in the CPU, not the external GPU. Makes sense since only Model X and Model S have the external GPU and most of the infotainment dev is for the much more popular 3 and y. I think the only thing that uses it is Steam. So basically S and X are getting the equivalent CPU of the 3 and Y now. I bet like sunroofs and passenger lumbar the actual number of people using Steam in their X and S is very low so why put in a relatively expensive outboard GPU than rarely gets used.

They might have had the GPU there for sensor number crunching for the quasi functional self driving and then it never went anywhere because Elon's bad rap and impulsiveness burned everything to the ground lately.

No, the self driving stuff runs on their own silicon. It wouldn't make sense to start buying a GPU for just some of the cars late into development to run an fsd fork on that. They want the same fsd software on all the cars.

I know people are making jokes about this but it is/was a pretty cool and unique feature when you’re stuck waiting for or at a supercharger.

Probably needs the compute power for when full self driving comes out next year. /s

The last thing we need is a bunch of Elon dickriders playing games while their cars are cruising around on the roads.

Bro, make your cars stop spontaneously combusting before trying to get cute about your murderous "autopilot"

The best steam game in no steam game. I’m betting the number of people that use it is very small.

Ugh, so I can’t play Baldurs Gate 3 while cruising down the interstate?? Definitely not buying a Tesla now!
