So seems my Thumstick is damaged Question
So just noticed my left thumb stick is damaged on my Deck, this is a base 64GB model that I've had since launch, is this an easy repair or is it time that I upgrade to the OLED model?
It's seems to be able to spin when a touch it the other stick can't do that, I've been playing fine, but don't know if this will eventually turn into a bigger issue.

Yeah runs pretty well there is a video on optimal settings get between 30 - 40FPS. Drops a bit on high difficulty but still very playable.

Tbh those breaking isn't all that bad. It's an excuse to get the hall effect ones and they're easy to fix

Assuming people are correct and the hall effect joysticks are better you should look into that.
Other than that it's just unscrew a bunch of things unplug a cable plug cable back into the new part screw everything back up also REMOVE YOUR SD CARD.

Plastic breaks, wow, also who's down voting it? Sounds like you've got an imaginary enemy

Check your receipt to see when your date of purchase was and find out if you have a valid warranty still. If not I would still search up what the return policy is on these devices. You may be able to replace it far cheaper than if you bought a new one outright without returning this one for refurbishing from the manufacturer.

on a controller that'd be a very easy repair, on a deck it's probably a bit more complicated

It’s much easier to do on the deck actually.

I mean a controller is just 6 to 8 screws and then just exchange the joystick, unless the issue is the metal thingy (don't know the name) which require soldering.
Edit: yall are downvoting me for what exactly ?

For a modern controller you need to do quite of bit of soldering, for the deck it’s a couple screws and a swap out.

But we're talking about the joystick not the metal thingy under, it just need to be pulled off.

What do you mean by the metal thingy under? Like the actual joystick housing underneath?

Yes ! That part need soldering but not the plastic which can just be easely exhanged. Sorry, english ain't my main language.

I’m not sure if the plastic joint that’s broken can be taken off, might be possible but honestly at that point I feel like replacing it is the easier option, you could damage the stick doing that I’d think. You’d still need to take the back cover off and the stick out anyway.

You can but you'd have to solder 1 wire for the capacitive sensor on the stick to work (and find a suitable replacement that supports said feature). The first picture in this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/133zsb6/is_it_possible_to_replace_the_joystick_with/

It can't. It's one piece.

That’s what I figured. Thanks for confirming that bit of information.

On PS5 and XSX controllers, they are soldered and very difficult to replace. On the Deck it's a quick swap out.

You do that when your stick breaks and let me know how the stick drift works out for ya, since he didn't actually touch the joystick.

Very easy repair imo just check the guide on iFixit and order the part there I think it's around 20$
