Discussion Did Tom Bombadil’s presence in the story add depth and mystery or did he detract from the overall narrative by being too enigmatic and out of place in the larger context of Middle-earth?
I think I know how folks will respond here…but then again, sometimes this sub surprises me in the best of ways. Image Source: “Fellowship” by Arthur Baron-Clément

Discussion Do you say "Lord of the Rings" or "The Lord of the Rings"?
"The Lord of the Rings" always sounded more correct to me, but I've almost universally heard everyone drop the "the". Which makes things easier when you say "Have you read the Lord of the Rings books?", whereas if you include "the" you kind of have to work your way around it, i.e. "the soundtrack to The Lord of the Rings".
Maybe I'm alone in this, but does anyone else include "The" more often than not?

Movies Everyone always talks about Viggo Mortensen breaking his toe when he kicks the helmet…
…but nobody ever talks about Sean Astin cutting his foot open on a piece of glass when he runs into the water chasing Frodo at the end of Fellowship. It’s a shame, a damn shame.

The Rings of Power Do you consider the Rings of Power to be canon?
I’m curious to see where the sub stands on this. I personally only consider Tolkien and his son’s work to be canon. This is just a corporation cashing in. Generic Hollywood screenwriters placed onto the same creative level of Tolkien with “new stories”.

Books Should I continue the fellowship of the ring?
I loved the hobbit and decided to read the fellowship of the ring. I am really not liking this book, it a chore and is quite boring. I can't even bring myself to read more than 3 pages a night. I have enjoyed few parts of this book but everything else has been boring. I am at page 151, is this normal or should I just save myself and drop the series to save myself from more boredom? I don't mean to offend anyone on here or the author.

Books Found this for $5 at a Goodwill, The Hobbit 1966 3rd edition, 1st impression.
1966/67 3rd North American Edition, first impression or first edition, 24th impression of The Hobbit. One of my cooler finds.

Movies I'm begging all of you to wait a bit before hating the Hunt for Gollum movie, at LEAST until we know a lot more.
Pretty much the title, don't get me wrong I understand the caution after whatever the hell Rings of Power was but with the Gollum game being a flop and now this movie coming I've seen a few comments just straight up hating Gollum as a character when before I never really saw that if at all, if this was a lone comment I wouldn't care but it had a surprising amount of up votes. Please if you're going to hate something, don't hate something just for being part of it.
If it does flop that's probably my last hope gone unless War of the Rohirrim cooks beforehand. I want to trust PJ and those who worked on the trilogy, I give them a pass on TH because of all the pressures everywhere and things they had to do.
We've not had any red flags as far as I know for the movie yet, but I hate that some people already jumped to hating it without any information (I think some has come out since though?)
This is just me hoping this gets out to someone to give it a second to breathe, we'll find a lot more about it by the time a trailer is here and if you think it's trash when it releases then fair enough, just don't take RoP as what the standard LOTR experience is going to be going forward.
If a discussion does pop to comments please keep it civil there's no issue with having opposite opinions or anything like that, discussion is good.

The Rings of Power Why did Rings of Power get so much hate?
I really enjoyed watching the first season, and I am excited for the second one? Today I discovered this sub, and I am seeing almost everyone hating on it. What is the reason for that? (I don’t want to see childish hate, I want constructive criticism)
