Right? Iā€™d be so embarrassed taking a photo of this. I get it, peopleā€™s houses arenā€™t mess free all the time but none of this bothers their partner, nor them? Are they teenagers? So much random ass crap all in one place, too

My apartment gets messy sometimes during the work week but Iā€™d never post it on Reddit. šŸ’€

I dont think it ever looks like this but it gets bad enough that I wouldn't have guests until I have time to clean

It sure does look exactly like the dresser of someone who decides sharing an anonymous photo on social media is the best way to deal with a spousal problem

There are literally medicine boxes and vials strewn across the cabinet top, half used bottles everywhere and all sorts of receipts just lying on the floor because the cabinet is too full.

That water bottle in the drawer makes it impossible to close, it seems, so apparently leaving that open is also no issue for OP and their wife.

This is chaotic, unsanitary and a terribly chaotic and at the very least inefficient way to live. Thatā€™s just facts.

To me this screams of people who donā€™t have their life in order - maybe they are suffering from depression or a burn-out, might not even realize yet, maybe one is on their way to become a hoarder, or something else is making it genuinely difficult for them to keep their house well-kept. Could be they need to do too many jobs to stay afloat, who knows. This whole last paragraph is me theorizing and indeed judging. The whole bit before is just observation, and that is what was mostly going on in the comments you replied to.

How much of your explanation did you think I didnā€™t understand initially? I can see the picture, and I can see the comment, and theyā€™re all very mean. Saying things like, ā€œI could never live like that,ā€ and, ā€œitā€™s usually some sign of mental illness,ā€ are crazy things to say to a stranger. These things may be true, but are in no way helpful to say. Imagine one of them ARE suicidal and then read some of these comments. ā€œAbsolutely filthy,ā€ ā€œdisgusting,ā€ ā€œsign of mental illness,ā€ ā€œi could never,ā€ ā€œšŸ¤¢ā€, ā€œI would be so embarrassed,ā€ ā€œI bet their bathroom is rancid.ā€

Itā€™s fucked up. I understand discussing mental illnesses between commenters, but if it is mental illness, then why would people also be rude and say some of these things? Putting people down for their symptoms of mental illness just straight up isnā€™t cool, and I know that most of these people agree with that.

Although I am not in total disagreement, I believe itā€™s not up to ā€˜usā€™, the commenters, to worry about someone elseā€™s state of mind. Of course I donā€™t want to talk someone into suicide, but Iā€™m also not going to put every single comment next to a checklist of who it might possibly offend, just to be safe. Thereā€™s some responsibility on the posterā€™s side as well. They asked for comments, they got them. Some could be less rude, agreed, but I havenā€™t seen any opinions that I found inappropriate.
